So, The construction of the Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge wasn’t an easy task. Being a mega dream project of china, it was expected to bring a rocket blast in China’s communication infrastructure. Since 2000, China transformed its industrial capabilities to such levels that they quickly started building massive public and industrial transport lines that connected their major industrial hubs one to another.

This revolution of bridge building enabled them to construct small or big bridges in a short time while many countries even think about it. Introducing first

The building of the Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge lasted 4 years, using the workforce about 10 thousand people and resources that reached the cost of $8.5 billion. While the bridge contraction was finished on November 15, 2010, the grand opening happened in June of 2011 (Since then the public transport was allowed on the bridge). It is 164.8 kilometers long, has a span of 260 feet, and average height from the ground of around 100 feet (31 meters).

After the opening ceremony, it broke the past records of all other bridges, including the largest water bridge in Louisiana (24 miles long Lake Pontchartrain Causeway). On the way of this bridge, it’s parallel to the flow of the Yangtze River, between 5 to 50 miles (8 to 80 kilometers) on the south of it.

The striking part of the bridge is its 5.6 miles (9 kilometers) section that goes across the open waters of Yangcheng Lake in Suzhou. This section was built on top of 2000 pillars, steel cables, and an impressive 450,000 tons of steel structure. It has been constructed so strong that it can resist not only natural disasters such as typhoons and magnitude 8.0 earthquakes but also direct impacts from naval vessels that weigh up to 300,000 tons.

Even though it may have lost its title as the world’s longest sea-crossing bridge, to the recently built Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, it is still a world record holder!!!

The Danyang Kunshan Grand Bridge is actually a part of the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway. Previously, where it took 4 ½ hours to travel from Ningbo to Jiaxing through public transport but now this has been cut to just two hours as a consequence of the Danyang Kunshan Grand Bridge. However, another purpose of this bridge was to transport trains on one of China’s premier high-speed railways over a massive distance. Nowadays, it becomes the tourist attraction of China.
